Leading by example with virtual work experiences
Supporting our local communities and being a great place to work are two really important things to us here at Magna. We want to be the place where talented and ambitious people enjoy rewarding and fulfilling careers in an inspirational environment.
Last week, we tried something new. We took part in a virtual work experience day with The Sir John Colfox Academy in Bridport. Our aim was to offer an insight into working in some of our teams, and to give inspiration on what career paths are available to local students when they leave education.
Sarah Cartlidge, Colleague Development Specialist, said: “We haven’t been able to attend careers fairs or provide work experience placements over the last year. So the virtual event was a great way to still be able to help local schools and their students gather information about their career options and gain some experience.
“It’s also a great way for us to generate interest in Magna as a future employer, building a talent pipeline, gaining insight and knowledge about the future generation of colleagues and supporting young people within our community.”
30 students joined colleagues from our HR, IT, digital architecture and communication and marketing teams in online classroom sessions providing a wealth of different activities and tasks for the students to get involved with.
Mr Shelley, Headteacher at The Sir John Colfox Academy, said: “I dropped into several of the placements throughout the day and have been impressed with the level of engagement and the range of tasks the students have been set. I've had some great feedback from students and parents.”
