Maiden Newton Youth FC with new goal

Magna bags new goals for youth football club

The young players of Maiden Newton Youth Football Club – nicknamed the Hawks – can keep on scoring thanks to a set of new goals donated by Magna Housing.

Dorchester-based housing association Magna agreed to fund the new portable goals to replace the club’s old plastic ones.

The Hawks’ young players – ranging from five to 16 years old – play in the Dorset Youth and Dorset Mini Soccer Leagues. The club recently added an under-sevens team for the first time.

The goals are being used for training sessions and featured in the Hawks’ annual football tournament in May, which Magna also sponsored.

Maiden Newton Youth Football Club chairman Steve May said:

“We’re extremely grateful for the funding provided by Magna.

“As a small community club, we’re reliant on the generosity of local businesses to ensure we can maintain the first-rate experience for all our young members.

“The goals purchased with the funding enabled us to hold our annual tournament, which attracted nearly 400 children from all over Dorset and will continue to be used for future seasons benefiting a number of our players and the wider community.”

Magna provides around 9,000 homes in the southwest, including 53 in Maiden Newton with plans to build a further 14 in the village.

Magna’s head of customer experience and home services Alice Bagg said:

“As a community-based housing association, we’re thrilled to be able to help the club provide opportunities for local young people to get involved in youth football and have fun.

“Through Magna’s community improvement fund, we’re always keen to support local projects in the areas where our customers live. It’s great to see children and young people enjoying the benefits.”
