Supporting our local food banks
Christmas is nearly here and after what has been a challenging year for so many people, we’re donating to our local food banks to support local families.
Our local food banks work incredibly hard throughout the year to make sure that people in crisis get support. Christmas is often their busiest time, but this year the demand is expected to be even higher after so many people have struggled through furlough and redundancies caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.
So, in addition to our regular donations, we’ve committed a further £3,000 this week to help food banks in Dorset and Somerset.
Tony Murray, Housing Director at Magna, said “Christmas is supposed to be a time for joy and celebration, but for too many people it’s becoming increasingly difficult, with more people than ever expected to need to use a food bank during the festive period. Our local food banks do a fantastic job helping people in our local communities and we wanted to support them with additional funds to provide those vital essentials.”
We have donated £500 each to the food banks in Dorchester, Sherborne, Lyme Regis, Weymouth, Watchet & Williton, and Minehead.
Tony visited the Watchet & Williton food bank this week to see them in action and offer his support. Marlene Mason, secretary and co-ordinator at Quantock Food Bank said: 'We are most grateful to Magna for their donation, which has helped to make Christmas brighter for struggling families throughout the area, many of whom are tenants of the Housing Association.'
