Supporting students to find their career path
Our ambition is to be a great place to work, where talented and ambitious people enjoy rewarding and fulfilling careers in an inspirational environment which is why we’re keen to support the talent of tomorrow. One of the ways we do this is by working with local schools in Dorset through the Enterprise Adviser Network.
Enterprise Advisers are business professionals who volunteer to work with a school or college’s senior management to help improve careers education.
They provide insight into the demands of the company they work for and the current ‘world of work’. This is vital to help schools and colleges deliver relevant and inspiring careers education and also helps to build employer interaction with students that may be interested in apprenticeships in the future.
Stephanie Lloyd-Foxe, Project Manager in our asset management team, is the enterprise adviser for Woodroffe School in Lyme Regis, and Sarah Cartlidge, Colleague Development Specialist in our HR team, is the enterprise adviser for Westfield Arts College in Weymouth.
Both of them work to build strong relationships with these schools and to offer insight into the opportunities available in the local job market. It’s also a great way for us as an employer to give back to the communities we have homes in.
Sarah said: “I really enjoy being an Enterprise Adviser because I think it is vital to prepare, support and inspire young people for the future world of work. I am excited to be able to offer a variety of virtual interactions in the coming months, and look forward to building our relationship with Westfield.”
In addition to this, various colleagues from across #TeamMagna attend careers fairs and apprenticeship events to highlight the variety of roles available. We also provide work experience opportunities and apprenticeships.
Despite the restrictions the pandemic has caused, we’re still keen to get involved in new ways of offering these experiences, and this year we are offering support to students through a virtual approach, by creating videos, podcasts and booking online interviews.
We’re always delighted to get involved in the communities we work in, and to encourage the development of creative, aspirational and talented people to work with us.
