Winter warmer events in Dorset and Somerset open to all

Magna Housing is running winter warmer events in Dorset and Somerset, offering customers and people living in the surrounding communities a safe, warm place to drop in for a hot drink, a light lunch and some company. The first two events took place today (Thursday 29 January).

The winter warmer events will run from 11am until 2pm in some of Magna’s community rooms. Local people can pop along to the events for 10 minutes or the full length of the session to enjoy hot drinks and food, share conversation, or just to settle down somewhere safe and warm.

The community rooms are set within Magna’s sheltered housing schemes, which offer homes for customers who need a little extra support to continue to enjoy independent living.

Three events are taking place in Dorset:
29 January (11am-2pm): Marshallsay Road, Chickerell, Dorset
5 February (11am-2pm): Richmond Green, Sherborne, Dorset
12 February (11am-2pm): Bayeux Court, Dorchester, Dorset

Two events are taking place in Somerset:
29 January (11am-2pm): Healeys, Porlock, Somerset
12 February (11am-2pm): Deane Close, Stogumber, Taunton, Somerset

Kate Legg, who leads the Grants and Funding programme at Magna, says: “Everyone who lives around the community rooms is invited to pop in and join us. They’ll find a warm welcome, refreshments served by colleagues from Magna, and the chance to win an air fryer or a slow cooker in our free prize draw.

“We know January can be a tough month because of the shorter, darker days and the aftermath of Christmas, coupled with expensive energy bills and the high cost of living. This is about offering somewhere warm and safe for our communities, as well as the chance to build connections, tackle loneliness and offer support. We’re hoping local people will come along – whether with a friend, a family member or on their own – to enjoy a drink and a chat.

“We’re really grateful to grant funding from the South West Procurement Alliance (SWPA) and LHC Procurement Group which has allowed us to run these events.”
